- Owner
Gert bought his first hotel,
d'Ouwe Werf, in Stellenbosch after completing a year
long stint at the Grant Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam
as trainee in 1972. A great example to his staff,
you’ll see his distinct methods evident through
out the hotel. He is also a major player in the broader
tourism arena, serving on advice committees for the
provincial government. Gert also played a major role
in getting Route 62 up and running.

- General Manager
P-J has been working with Gert Lubbe since 1998, where
he started as member of the reception staff at Gert’s
other property, Matoppo Inn in Beaufort West. He moved
to Montagu in April 1999, and took over as General Manager
in October the same year. |

Frans started his career as chef in the defence force,
learning the trade in a military way. He’s been
cooking up storms at the hotel since 1997, and is a
real smooth operator in his kingdom, our kitchen.
Bernadette joined Frans in 1998, and under his supervision
has grown into a very capable kitchen assistant. She
specializes in deserts, and put many a happy smile on
our guest’s faces with her delicious sweets.

“Never trust a skinny cook”. Francis been at the hotel
when Mr. Lubbe bought it in 1996 as an assistant chef.
Coming from a family of Malay cooks, she specializes
in our traditional dishes like Bobotie and Karoo Lamb
Pie.

Another 1996 veteran, Cynthia is running the laundry
department at the hotel. Nicknamed “Bones”,
she is very capable to systematically and smoothly run
a very busy laundry. |

Elize has been with the hotel from the day Mr. Lubbe
bought it, and has seen many faces come and go over
the years. She is one of the senior house keeping ladies
and sees to the cleanliness of the hotel. A permanent
shy smile is always visible as she goes about her chores.

Freek joined
on Millennium day. Appointed as a dishwasher, he proved
himself as a very competent all rounder in the kitchen.
If you hear a male voice singing on the property, be
sure it belongs to Freek. Always in a good mood, Freek
is that one member of staff you need to cheer up the
rest on a gloomy day

Leonore is the
loudest staff member, with a crackling laughter to round
off her performances. Very capable behind the grill and
under pressure, Leonore is an integral part of the kitchen
unit. |

One of the cornerstones
of our operation, Kosie is much more than just a resident
pianist. Apart from charming our quests with his delightful
music, Kosie does all the floral arrangements in the hotel,
liquor stock purchasing and control and many other bits
and pieces. |

One of the senior
housekeeping ladies, Wilna quietly goes about her daily
tasks. She is known to be speaking to herself, but no
one minds this. |
 |

Sammy attracts
accidents – he fell into our pool twice, and once of the
back of a truck. Luckily this doesn’t interfere with duties
as a very reliable porter. |
 |

Angela = Angel.
She is a head waitress, and on look at her face will explain
why she is associated with angels. Angels is an integral
part of our restaurant team. |

Always elegant,
Emmie worked herself up through the ranks to be one of
our floor managers in the restaurant. She keeps our girls
on their toes in the dining room, and also helps with
room checks. |
 |

When the kitchen
needed a new cleaner, Gerrie was approached while he was
picking fruit on a nearby farm. He made the career move
and prefer challenge of working in busy kitchen to the
monotonous task of picking peaches and apricots. |
 |

She is affectionately
known as Q, and lives the dream of becoming a famous singer
- already competed in SA Idols competitions, and we are
sure time for fame is not along way off. |

Gert's baby,
and shares his stately and gracious ways, walking around
like the hotel actually belongs to her. |
 |

Belongs to P-J,
but shared with a variety of regular guests. Watch our
when you are in swimming pool, she will challenge you
to a race... |
 |

The name means
pussy cat in Russian, and this cat has been at the hotel
for ever. She will grace the patio and deck areas for
a nap in the sun, and also be seen in the garden eyeing
the birds. |
