Montagu Country Hotel
Set in the heart of Montagu on Route 62, Montagu Country Hotel is a four-star Art Deco hotel with a history stretching back to 1875. At the western entrance to the Klein Karoo, it offers 29 individually decorated Art Deco and Victorian rooms and the relaxed character of a true country hotel.
Stay for more than the room. Two restaurants, two swimming pools, Montagu Garden Spa, an art gallery and beautiful gardens are all part of the experience, with the Langeberg Mountains and the attractions of Montagu close by. The hotel is also conveniently placed between the Cape Winelands and the Garden Route, making it an easy stop on a wider Western Cape journey.
Families are welcome, with selected pet-friendly and wheelchair-friendly accommodation, free Wi-Fi and on-site EV charging. Montagu Country Hotel is also a proud founding member of Cape Country Routes, a collection of independently owned and character-filled stays and experiences across the Western Cape.
Art Deco experience
Art Deco has shaped the hotel since 1932, when the original Victorian hotel made way for the building you see today. Original and carefully collected furniture, bold colour and geometric detail carry that character through the rooms and public spaces, alongside the comforts of a contemporary country hotel.
No two rooms are quite the same. Art Deco and Victorian styles sit comfortably side by side, giving Montagu Country Hotel a character very much its own.
Coffee to Candlelight
Our two Montagu restaurants each have a character of their own. At Charlestons, classic elegance sets the scene for breakfast and candlelit dinner, with familiar South African flavours, seasonal dishes and fresh produce from the Breede River Valley.
Feathers & Flatcaps offers a more relaxed setting — an Art Deco social lounge for Bootlegger Coffee, freshly baked cake, lunch, light snacks, sharing platters and drinks. Both welcome hotel guests, locals and visitors.

For one of the more distinctive Things To Do in Montagu, let American Dream Cars do the driving. Choose between two classic Cadillac Sedan De Villes for a private, chauffeur-driven outing with a registered local tour guide. Explore Montagu, Route 62 and the Robertson Wine Valley, plan a wine tour or scenic drive, or book a Cadillac for a wedding, photo shoot or special occasion.
Montagu Garden Spa
Our Montagu spa welcomes hotel guests and day visitors for massages, facials and body treatments, with treatments available for individuals and couples. Manicures and pedicures are also available, together with a private infrared sauna and mineral jacuzzi using water from Montagu’s thermal springs.
