Montagu Country Hotel
Set in the heart of Montagu on Route 62, Montagu Country Hotel is a four-star Art Deco hotel with a history stretching back to 1875. At the western entrance to the Klein Karoo, it offers 29 individually decorated Art Deco and Victorian rooms with the relaxed character of a true country hotel.
Stay for more than the room. Two restaurants, two swimming pools, Montagu Garden Spa, an art gallery and beautiful gardens are all here, with the Langeberg Mountains and Montagu’s attractions close by. About two hours from Cape Town and conveniently halfway between the Cape Winelands and Garden Route, the hotel is well placed for a weekend getaway in Montagu or a wider Western Cape journey.
Families are welcome, with selected pet-friendly and wheelchair-friendly accommodation, free Wi-Fi and on-site EV charging. A proud founding member of Cape Country Routes, the hotel is part of a collection of independently owned, character-filled stays and experiences across the Western Cape.
Art Deco experience
Art Deco has shaped the hotel since 1932, when the original Victorian hotel made way for the building you see today. Original and carefully collected furniture, bold colour and geometric detail feature throughout the rooms and public spaces, alongside modern country-hotel comforts.
No two rooms are quite the same. Art Deco and Victorian styles sit comfortably side by side, giving the hotel a character very much its own.
Coffee to Candlelight
Our two Montagu restaurants have very different moods. Charlestons brings classic elegance to breakfast and candlelit dinner, with familiar South African flavours, seasonal dishes and fresh produce from the Breede River Valley.
Feathers & Flatcaps is more relaxed — an Art Deco social lounge for Bootlegger Coffee, freshly baked cake, lunch, light snacks, sharing platters and drinks. Both welcome hotel guests, locals and visitors.

For one of the more distinctive Things To Do in Montagu, let American Dream Cars do the driving. Choose one of two classic Cadillac Sedan De Villes for a private, chauffeur-driven outing with a registered local tour guide. Explore Montagu, Route 62 and the Robertson Wine Valley on a wine tour or scenic drive, or book a Cadillac for a wedding, photo shoot or special occasion.
